Cutting Board Care

To keep your wood cutting board looking great and lasting a lifetime, follow these simple steps:

  • Hand wash your board with warm water and mild dish detergent, and towel dry immediately.  Never let your board soak in water, and definitely never put your board in the dishwasher.
  • Over time, all wood dries out, which can lead to cracking and / or warping on your cutting board.  We recommend using a food safe mineral oil to keep your board hydrated, followed by an application of beeswax to lock in the moisture.  Just rub in the mineral oil with a clean cloth or paper towel, let sit for at least a few hours or overnight, and wipe off the excess.  You can then repeat this process with the beeswax application to seal the board.  The amount of use and environmental factors will dictate how often you need to condition your board, however a good rule of thumb is once every month.
  • We recommend that you store your board on its side, or leaning against a wall or backsplash, to allow for air circulation.  This will help prevent your board from warping.  If you would like to store your board on a flat surface, such as your countertop, it is highly recommended to have feet installed to allow airflow underneath.  Many of our larger boards include the option for feet, which we highly recommend.
  • Avoid using vegetable, nut, or seed based oils on your wood board.  These oils can penetrate the board and become rancid and spoil.
  • Using serrated or electric knives on your board will leave unsightly cut marks, as these types of knives are very aggressive and will chew away the wood.
  • Enjoy your new cutting board!  Although these boards are beautiful to look at, they are very well made, durable, and meant to be used and enjoyed.
